artist statement

Alicia is an artist & illustrator who feels strongly about using the arts to tell stories about the natural world. She specialises in wildlife art and “wildlife artivism”, where art is use to communicate science, and influence individual’s thoughts and behaviours about environmental issues – and she regularly talks and teaches workshops in this area.

Growing up in North Yorkshire, Alicia takes inspiration from the natural world around her, as well as gaining constant inspiration from winding streets, crumbling buildings, and the places time appears to have forgotten, where it feels as though magic brims through the cracks.

She is heavily influenced by sounds, song, and music – both from nature, and by people – helping her choose colours, shapes, and textures with her work.

Alicia is constantly experimenting with new styles and media – her curiosity feeds into her work, as she tries to push boundaries and find new ways of expressing herself, and showcasing the natural world and the wildlife which inhabits it in startling clarity.
